The Power of Beliefs

Happy Melbourne Cup day. I’m not really into horse racing but I will certainly enjoy a day off. You may also have noticed that I sent a couple of emails last night about the events we have coming up this weekend. Sometimes these events sneak up on me. I’m just wondering where October went because it feels like it was September about two days ago!    So as well as our “Exploring Autism Seminar” on this Saturday, we have Christine Long running one of her monthly workshops on Friday night. This one is called “Live Your Full Potential and Shine” Christine is a very gifted facilitator and her workshop are always a wonderful experience, You can CLICK HERE to find out more and to register. This week I want to talk to you about the power of your beliefs. I was thinking about the anxiety epidemic we seem to be experiencing lately. Have you noticed how many people are stressed and anxious? And have you noticed that it seems to be getting worse not better? Part of the problem is our fast paced world and part is that our bodies are depleted of nutrition.  We simply don’t have enough of the raw ingredients like magnesium and Vit B to support our nervous system. It gets switched on and it doesn’t have the ability to switch off. That’s when naturopathy can be incredibly helpful.  A huge contributing factor, however, that leads to anxiety is a subconscious belief about danger.  The body only goes into “Fight or Flight” mode as a protection against what it believes is real physical danger. It prepares us to run away or defend ourselves. In nature, three minutes in fight or flight mode is normal, then the body relaxes again. If this physical response of a racing heart, tight muscles, rapid breathing and an urgent desire to run away or attack is meant to occur when we are in danger why then would it happen when you’re sitting safely at an office desk or you’re in the middle of the supermarket? Well the answer is because your subconscious believes that you are in danger. Now, as vast and as powerful as the sub-conscious mind is, it is not always rational. It holds the beliefs that it’s aquired over a lifetime. Most of our beliefs are established when we’re children and so they aren’t necessarily true or beneficially once we’re adults. Having a belief that its important to please people, for example, is beneficial for a child. If someone doesn’t like you when you’re a child that could mean that you don’t get fed or clothed or kept safe, especially if that someone is your parent.  In childhood, to not be liked is potentially life threatening. So if someone is angry with you that’s really scary and your sub-conscious mind learns that it’s very dangerous to make someone angry. That belief becomes permanently embedded in your subsconscious mind and and so as an adult you still believe, at that deep level, that it’s dangerous to upset someone. So if your in tray at work is overflowing and the boss is on your back about it, or your partner is not happy about something, if your mother in law expects you to be at her house for Christmas or if a client is demanding you meet a deadline then the “little girl” or “little boy” within you senses danger and can go into Fight or Flight mode. Of course there are various degrees of Fight or Flight. It can be anything from low grade chronic stress to a full blown panic attack. It can be triggered by a thought about your overflowing in-tray or your out of control To Do list as you’re sitting on the train, or out shopping. This particular belief about the danger associated with people not liking you will mean that you can’t handle conflict and you tend to be a “people pleaser.”  Of course we have thousands of various beliefs that run our lives. We have beliefs about our self-worth, about whether we belong or if we are good enough. We have beliefs about relationships and health and money. Beliefs affect our decisions and actions on a daily basis in ways that we are not even aware of. Beliefs can also affect our body. In a research trial subjects were given a sugar pill and told it was a new chemotherapy drug and that it may have side effects. In 30% of cases their hair fell out! That’s how powerful beliefs are. The good news is that learning to change any unhelpful or limiting beliefs can free you to fully be happy and healthy. In fact pretty much everything we struggle with in life is the result of a fear based belief.  Imagine if you could live life fearlessly as author, Anita Moorjani, advocates. A near death experience changed her entire belief system and she healed from Stage 4 cancer in a matter of days. So, if you’d like support identifying and clearing the beliefs that are holding you back, creating limits, health issues or anxiety in your life then we have a few very cool options….. Two of our practitioners, Tina Carr and Geoff Charles, recently attended the first Australian “Health and Wellness” PSYCH-K Workshop held in Coolangatta.  The workshop was conducted by Dr. Duccio Locati, a doctor of Osteopathy living in Milan Italy.   Tina has been our PSYCH-K “Belief Buster” for some time now and has achieved absolutely wonderful results with her clients, facilitating amazing transformation in their lives by releasing limiting beliefs held in the subconscious mind in a matter of minutes.   I’m really pleased to announce that Geoff will now be joining Tina as a “Belief Buster” facilitator at Simply Natural Therapies.
