What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and often creates a beneficial effect. It can also work in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Reiki is positive energy. It never causes harm to any living thing.
What can it treat?
Reiki works on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, and can help you enhance many aspects of your life. Reiki may:
- Reduce stress and promote deep relaxation, comfort and peace

How will it feel?
The person receiving Reiki lays fully clothed on a massage table. The practitioner holds her hands on or above the recipient. The healing energy comes through the Reiki practitioner’s hands. The practitioner works through a sequence of hand positions. The client’s body then draws the amount of energy that is required for healing. Reiki is experienced differently by different people, as we all have different conditions. Most recipients enter a deeply relaxed state of peace. Besides this, people have felt cold, pulsating heat, or a tingling sensation during a session. Some muscles may twitch.
Reiki penetrates through the clothing, linens, and wood of the table. Unlike massage, Reiki does not involve skin to skin contact.
What benefits might I receive?
In some people, chronic or acute pain may lessen or resolve. Having said this, also consider that many troublesome conditions are not created overnight. While it may happen, don’t expect an instant recovery. After a session your body may detoxify. You might have to go to the bathroom more frequently, or your skin might release toxins. To help the detoxification process, you should drink lots of water before and after treatment, and over the following few days. An increase in energy and alertness, and a feeling of overall well-being may be noticed as well. Reiki is recommended for ongoing health maintenance. It promotes strong health & can prevent illness. You don’t have to be sick to benefit from Reiki.
How many treatments will I need?
To begin with, weekly sessions are recommended to remove entrenched blocks in your energy system; then once every two weeks until the issue has resolved. You may begin to notice some improvement after the first session. Long-standing health issues may require a number of sessions. Disease generally begins in the energy field so if we keep our subtle bodies healthy using Reiki, and our physical bodies healthy with good nutrition and exercise, we should be able to remain active and whole. Healing takes commitment and time. Your therapist will discuss a treatment plan with you to suit your particular needs and help you achieve optimum results.
