The Power of Crystals?

How has your week been?  I’m finally getting back into routine after the summer break. Yesterday Leah and I thoroughly enjoyed pottering in the shop.  Leah has such an artistic flair and she rearranged shelves and displays to make room for some gorgeous new stock.

I went to our supplier for new crystals last week and had to go again yesterday to get the things I’d forgotten.  Of course having a shopping list when shopping for crystals is a bit like trying to go into the supermarket for just one thing. I’m not famous for my self-control so I brought back more than I probably should have.

Have you discovered the power of crystals yet?  I must confess I was a sceptic until a number of years ago. I’ve told this story before but it’s worth repeating….   When I first started working as a Hypnotherapist almost 20 years ago I kept my client files in a filing cabinet in my consulting room.  Whenever I was looking for a client’s file I would flick through all the other files to find it. To my consternation I discovered that as I saw each name it triggered the memory of that client’s story in my mind and the emotions connected to their story. I often work with people who’ve experienced some pretty horrible trauma and it felt awful getting a blast of that energy every morning as I prepared for my day. I seriously wondered how long I could work with these kinds of clients before I got burnt out.

A colleague at the Clinic was an Energy Healer and she was very familiar with crystals. She told me that Amethyst, which is a gorgeous purple crystal, transmutes negative energy. I hadn’t heard the term “transmute” before but she told me it means to transform  negative energy into positive energy. Alchemy transmute lead into gold. She told me to try putting a piece of Amethyst on the top of my filing cabinet.  I bought a small chunk and did what she suggested.

From that moment on every time I looked through my files they felt completely neutral. The names no longer triggered the emotions of the people or their stories. Those names were just words in alphabetical order.  I was amazed.  Now that doesn’t mean I stopped caring about my clients.  I could still be fully present with them and sensitive to their pain, trauma and their story during a consultation but once their file was back in the cabinet it felt neutral again. It was such a relief.

At the time I used the crystals to protect myself to ensure my work was sustainable.  Now I think about it, those crystals where probably helping the client as well by a kind of remote healing.  I’m actually thinking we need to put some crystals on our clinic filing cabinets now so all our clients gets a dose of that gorgeous healing energy.

In counselling, social work, nursing, law enforcement and many other professions there’s a term called “vicarious trauma”. When a practitioner hears a client’s story of abuse and trauma they can be traumatised by that story themselves. Burnout, depression, and even suicide is very high among  professionals who are at risk of vicarious trauma. At the risk of sounding flippant, maybe we need to be distributing Amethyst chunks to all the Police Stations, Hospitals and DHS offices in the country!

Over the years many people have asked me how I cope with my work listening to people’s problems all day. Doesn’t it get me down?  I can honestly say that doesn’t.  In fact I love nothing more than helping someone uncover the old stories and “transmuting” them.  I don’t normally use crystals but maybe I should. There are a number of powerful hypnotic techniques to transmute old trauma (I’ll be teaching some at Kindred Spirits this Thursday) but maybe adding in some Crystal Healing might create the changes even more effectively.

I certainly find that our Crystal Light Bed works magic to clear negative energy.  This process involves lying on a massage table with a bank of Chakra coloured lights above you. These lights shine through clear quartz crystal lenses that amplify the vibration of the colour. The lights pulse like disco lights and believe it or not you can literally feel the energy in your aura and through your body.  This process can clear, heal, strengthen and protect your energy field. Its a gorgeous experience.

But wait, that’s not all… Kara Kovacs, our Medical Intuitive and Energy Healer, also uses crystals in her work and runs a private session called Crystal Dreaming.  During this session you lie surrounded by a crystal grid and sacred geometry. Kara says it helps people to surpass time and space to connect with a place of utter peace, serenity and healing.  Sounds delicious to me.  Kara also incorporates Crystal Dreaming in her Atlantean Temple Healing nights.  Her next Healing night is on March 18th if you would like to join us you can BOOK HERE.  There are only 4 places left so be quick.

Now, I can’t tell you how crystals work because I don’t really know but I have no doubt that they do. Many people carry small tumble stones in their pocket or handbag. Lots of people wear bracelets made of small crystal chips. Others buy rough chunks or beautifully shaped, polished pieces to keep on their desk or bedside table (or filing cabinet). I’ve seen lots of people discover that as soon as they put on a black tourmaline bracelet they are no longer affected by the negative energy of people around them.
