Aromatherapy massage uses essential oils to treat ailments on a physical or mental level specifically to suit the clients needs. The easiest way to understand how this effect can occur, is through the ‘olfactory system’ i.e. through our ‘sense of smell’. The unique healing properties of essential oils can also work when massaged and absorbed into the skin, therefore making Aromatherapy massage a holistic treatment.
As essential oils are very potent and highly concentrated, a few drops are placed in a carrier oil such as almond or grape seed for your massage. As they affect the mood they may relax or energise you. Essential oils have cosmetic properties so are also used in skincare and hair care products. They can also have anti-viral, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties.
